Parents Are Important

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (James 2:14-17)

Did you know that Social Media Skills are being taught in the classroom. Classroom has Facebook circles, and twitter accounts. Are you okay with that? Did you have a choice in the matter? So whatever your thought pro or con Social Media is here... so how do you prepare your family to handle the change this will bring to their lives.

I like to draw comparisons to times gone by when we as people did not allow common sense to prevail. As we go down the social media trail, allow common sense to prevail…

Remember hearing about the person who was locked out of their car because the car remote quit working even though they had the key in their hand? They were locked out of their car and they did not realize they could use the key… Now rewind that point of view to “their” parents, would they have realized they had the key and simply opened the door. Step back once more to the next generation who owned a car and had a key that unlocked the door and also started the car.  The point each generation is changing, that change requires ALL generations to learn, to adapt through education and standards.

Do not allow your generation or those you love to lose or underdeveloped the skills needed to live every day.  In short my beloved do not let social media replace common sense.  According to Tracy Williams, it’s important for young people to:

  • Acquire skills that will prepare them to live and function in the world today which includes business or entrepreneurial.
  • Understand that not only social skills are required to function in the world but interpersonal and communication skills too.
  • Not allow quick and instantaneous feeds cripple their thoughts and language.

So in short parents stay involved in your child’s life, here is the key. The Word of God is timeless. Although the world changes applying His Holy Word to the life you live will prepare your Child to handle all the changes. Provide your children tools that will allow for them to ‘THINK” critically and “PROBLEM” solve. Use the Word of God as both yours and their corner stone to life.

Parents you may not be aware there are resources available to you to help your child.

Here is an excerpt I think is pretty telling….  Why common sense should prevail (i.e. support education…)

  •  “Children are born learning. Numerous scientific studies and economic analyses document the value of investing in the first five years to ensure that more infants, toddlers and preschoolers in disadvantaged families grow up eager to learn and ready for school”.
